Jade is available to teach classes in both private and public middle schools and high schools. These classes are typically held in a larger room (like a band room or gym) ten minutes after students are released from class. Class meets for 2 hours a week, for 3 to 4 weeks. The school typically helps to promote the class by sending out information to the parents and teachers via email. Jade will provide the class description and a pdf flyer. The school does not typically cover the cost of the class: each student is charged a fee. Price per student varies depending on the total length of the class. Typically, for every 8-9 students who pay the regular class fee, one student may attend at a reduced fee or for free. The school staff determines which students are in financial need for this fee reduction. Jade has liability insurance and can provide a Certificate of Additional insured prior to the start of class.
Over her career, Jade has taught self-defense for students at independent charter schools, Waldorf schools, public high schools and middle schools, alternative high schools with at-risk youth, and homeschool programs. Although Jade prefers to teach classes after the end of the regular school day, she has also taught during PE classes and is open to this option as well. Although Jade agrees that all boys should know how to defend themselves as well, Jade’s classes in the schools are specifically for female students.
Jade welcomes MTF transgender/gender non-conforming students in her general classes. Jade is also available to teach self-defense specifically for LGBTQ youth for schools and community organizations.
