Teens want more freedom and independence, to spend more time with their peers, to stay out later and have less adult supervision. As most parents know, this also means there is a greater risk of facing dangerous situations. In this class for teen girls, students will increase their skill and ability in both avoiding dangerous situations and defending themselves in a wide range of dangerous situations such as dating violence, sexual battery, sexual assault, sexual harassment and abduction. We discuss the correlation between alcohol/drugs and sexual assault and how to avoid being the victim of a drug-assisted rape (involving alcohol or date-rape drugs). This class emphasizes being strong, smart and confident and developing a strong inner foundation of self-love, self-respect, self-confidence and self-esteem. In this class, we also talk about effective ways to handle peer pressure, the importance of trusting your intuition and being true to yourself. Parents and teens can feel reassured that after taking this class, students will be more prepared to effectively handle a wide range of dangerous situations.
And, it is important to say that despite the heavy topics, this class is FUN! Students have fun and feel empowered as they learn powerful and effective physical, verbal and psychological self-defense skills and as they learn how to stand up for themselves in more common, daily interactions. Students consistently say that they feel more confident and capable of defending themselves after taking this class.
Teen girls and young women, age 12-24, are in the highest risk group for sexual assault. And the vast majority of assailants are someone the girl or woman knows. What does that mean? ALL TEEN GIRLS EVERYWHERE NEED SELF-DEFENSE TRAINING!!
